Create an Updo in Your Hair for Women. Being able to put your hair or someone else’s hair up in a nice updo is a fantastic skill to have and not very difficult. All you’ll need is a hair tie, lots of bobby pins, hairspray and a small barrel curling iron. Here are the steps to getting a great updo for prom or any special occasion!

Step 1

First, make sure your hair (or the hair you’re working on) is washed and thoroughly dried, if it’s wet, the curls won’t hold. Put the hair up in a pony tail at about the point on the head where you want the center of your hair updo to be.

Step 2

Next, lay out all your bobby pins on a counter and make sure your curling iron is hot. Begin with the hair on the top half of the pony tail hair tie. Take a section at a time and curl it, then, holding the curl lightly in your hand (don’t let it drop!), take a bobby pin and fasten the curl to the base of the pony tail. As you work outwards, the curls will be fastened farther and farther out.

Step 3

Finally, once all the hair has been secured and curled. Have your subject (or you) close your eyes while you do a final hair spray. Lots of hair spray will hold the curls secure and keep them from bouncing around. Enjoy your hair updo!
