How to Properly Clean Contact Lenses
Welcome to the world of contact lenses! One of the most important aspects, once you figure out how to get your contacts in and out of your eyes, is how to clean them. Without proper cleaning, your contacts can not only irritate your eyes, but carry infection. With the proper care, you’ll never have to worry about that!
Step 1
First, of course, you have to put your contacts on! Hopefully, you’ve remembered to store your contacts in their case (with the correct contact in its respective position!) with a bit of the contact solution. Before you remove the contacts, make sure you’ve washed your hands (and removed all the soap!) but don’t touch anything afterwards! Now remove your contact lense, remembering to avoid scratching against it with your nails.
Step 2
Once you have it out, place it in the palm of your non-dominant hand, with solution ready. Put a few drops of solution onto the contacts, and then gently rub it on both sides for about 10 seconds each. This should loosen any debri that are in there.
Step 3
Have you spotted any of those debris? Your contact will probably need a thorough cleaning; you should do this anyways, just in case. You wouldn’t want an irritated eye; or worse! Holding the palm of your hand, with the contact centered on it, over the paper towel, spray your contact lense; HARD. Don’t worry about damaging it; this won’t do a thing but to clean it! Solution will probably spill out a bit over your hand; that’s what the paper towel is for! (Just make sure not to touch it with your pointer finger, if you’re inserting your contacts.)
Step 4
It’s just about time to put your contact in! You should know how to do this by now. Your contact lense is likely filled with solution; pour it out so it’s only moist, not soaked and spilling over. If you’d like, add another drop of solution once you’ve done this; it will help get the contact onto your eye. Insert the contact, and viola! You can see!
Step 5
Taking your contact off? Some people don’t clean their contacts when they take them off, but it’s a good idea to do so, just in case. Why would you want your contacts swimming around in dirty water? Once you have your contact out of your eye, complete steps 2-4 again. Then place your contacts in their case again, fill it with solution if you haven’t already, and you’re done!
